The Verona Festival is almost here. Volunteers are urgently needed. Help make this festival one of the best. Even a few hours of your time will help in a big way. Student volunteers can contact Amanda Edgar, 613-449-8717 or Rick Hughes, 613-888-9950. Adult volunteers can contact Carol Ann, 613-374-1721. New volunteers can also attend the festival meeting on Tuesday July 21, 7 pm at the Verona Lions Club.

Beautiful weather and the tranquillity of McMullen Park and Beach made the perfect combination for the second free "Music in the Park" concert. Music lovers were entertained by the robust country music of Red Rose Express. The good news is another free concert is scheduled for August 16 featuring the music of Bill Lansdell and Friends. Can't wait!

It's in you to give! The Verona Lions Club will be hosting a Blood Donor Clinic Thursday July 23 from 2:30 to 6:30 pm at the Verona Lions Hall on Sand Rd. Canadian Blood Services and recipients are very grateful to the donors and volunteers who take the time to give back to their community. 52 per cent of Canadians have needed blood or blood products for surgery or for medical treatment. To avoid a wait you can even book an appointment for July 23 by calling Canadian Blood Services toll-free at 1 888-236-6283

On or about July 21st, local swimmer Natalie Lambert will attempt a record-breaking swim as the youngest person to complete the traditional crossing of Lake Ontario from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Toronto. She has been denied this achievement three times in the last two years by three- meter swells, lightning and illness. We will all be cheering her on as she makes this historic swim. The exact date for the Lake Ontario swim will be selected closer to the actual event as weather conditions are considered.

Portland District and Area Heritage Society will host their Heritage display at the Verona Farmer's Market on July 18. Make sure you also visit the "Festival Train" premiering at the Market.

Verona Drug Mart is now open Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Jitterbugs, Local Family Farms and Verona Rona Hardware are now open Sundays to accommodate the increase in summer business.

Kudos to Bellrock residents who rallied to save the Bell Rock Community Hall. Doris Ritchie and her hard work helped to motivate the community to preserve the hall. A newly formed committee with Kevin Wenkoff as the new chair is planning a number of events. The committee will meet on July 20 at 7 pm. Newcomers are welcome. For further information call Lynn Hutchison at 613-374-1470 or visit www.bellrockcommunityhall.reztel.ca

Verona Animal Hospital is moving. As of July 20, they will be moving to a larger location at 53 Westport Road (Westport Rd and Hwy 38). It is just a short five minute drive north of their present location. They will be providing all services as before and their phone number remains the same 613-374-1270.
