We spent a wonderful Sunday at the Land of Lakes Artisans Guild Arts and Crafts Show on December 6th. The talented group of artisans living in this area showcases the best in fibre, batik, wood, jewellery, painting and pottery. I was able to buy some truly unique gifts. To find out more about this group of artisans you can visit their website at http://www.landolakesartisans.org

Only two more Saturdays of shopping at the Verona Farmers Market and then the market takes a well-deserved break until late February. Now is the time to stock up on those jams and preserves, organic coffees, baked goods and many other specialty items. The Farmers Market will hold a Special Holiday Celebration on December 19th. The vendor will have lots of holiday foods, holiday treats and free draws for gift baskets. Lion's Club Hall, Verona Sand Rd. 9 am to noon.

The last two weeks of December are generally a quiet time for groups and meetings as they postpone their meetings until January. However the Piccadilly Jam Session featuring Country, Bluegrass and Folk music will continue playing every other Sunday throughout December at the Bedford Hall located on the Westport Road just east of Godfrey Open mike. Performers free, audience $1.00. info 613-374-1236 or 613-374-5477 . December 13th and December 27th from 1 to 5 pm

The Frontenac Flyers Junior C hockey team will play every Sunday at the Frontenac Arena at 7 pm for the rest of December. Visit the Verona website for info on which teams they will be playing. www.yourverona.com

If you haven't finished your Christmas shopping, think local. Then visit our local merchants and find that ideal gift. Need a gift for your hunter or fisherman, then shop at the Verona Hardware. How about a gift for the in-laws? Jitterbugs, Local Family Farms, Joyful Beader are just a few of the many merchants that will be happy to help you find that perfect gift. Gift certificates are the answer for that person who is impossible to buy for. Gift certificates from Bravo or Mom Restaurants for the friends who hate to cook. A gift certificate for a round of golf at Rivendell golf course. The possibilities are endless. Have fun with your imagination this holiday and give the gift of Verona shopping.
