The Frontenac Flyers ended their season last week. It was a difficult year for them as that first win eluded them. However in spite of the losses, they played in true Olympic spirit with enthusiasm and love of the game. Kudos to the Flyers. We'll be there to cheer you on next season.

Canada Post has issued some beautiful stamps in honour of the Canadian Winter Olympics. The latest issue was a surprise new issue to commemorate Canada's first gold win on home soil. The Verona Post Office has all these Olympic stamps for sale for first class letters.

On the first Friday in March, Canadian women participate in the annual World Day of Prayer, an international ecumenical movement of prayer and action. Each year, women from a different country write a service, which reflects their justice concerns through a biblical lens. This year, Cameroon will be the featured country. To learn more, visit www.worlddayofprayer.net/info.html. In Verona, Trinity United Church is hosting the Women's World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 5, 2010 at 10:00 am. Lunch will be provided after the service.

"Verona Diners" will be held at the Verona Trinity United Church on March 4 at noon. This program provides a full-course, catered meal for residents aged 55 plus. For $11 per person, you will enjoy a wonderful mid-day meal, entertainment and transportation (if required). This is a great opportunity to meet new and old friends, enjoy some local talent, and learn what's up in our community. Reservations are required. For more details call 613-376-6477.

The Quilting Group meets at Trinity United Church in Verona on March 3rd from 9am till noon. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to join , whether a seasoned quilter or a beginner. They have lots of patterns and ideas and there are always people to help with advice. Workshops are given on occasion. For more information call Ann McDougall at 613 374-2516.

The Frontenac Farmers Market is in full swing every Saturday morning at the Lions Club Hall. This is the place to find superb quality, locally grown and produced products from home-based bakers, canners, artisans and farmers. On the way to the market, have a thought for the less fortunate and bring some non-perishable food items for Rural Visions Food Bank. You can drop them off at the canteen counter at the market. Then treat yourself to a McLion's breakfast. 9am to noon.
