Enjoy the strawberries this weekend. Buy them fresh at the Farmer's Market and then visit Trinity United Church to enjoy Verona Heritage Society's annual Old Fashioned Strawberry Social on Saturday July 3rd, 1 to 4 pm. Home made biscuits with fresh strawberries and real whipped cream. All this for only $5.00 and $3.50 for children under 12. My mouth is watering already!

I have received calls and e-mails from excited residents who are thrilled with the beautiful flower barrels that adorn our Main St. Thirty-eight barrels are bursting with blooms. The Verona Community Association has set up a special page on the website www.yourverona.com showing pictures of all the barrels in their glory. The VCA will take pictures every three weeks to show the progression of these barrels. As you look through the pictures of the barrels you will quickly see that it's not the money, but the pride of participation that counts. Kudos to all the businesses and private residents who are taking part in beautifying our village of Verona.

A free Golf Clinic for girls only will be held at Rivendell Golf Course on Monday, July 5th. All girls welcome! The clinic includes a snack, t-shirt, lessons (putting, chipping and full swing) and the chance to watch some of Ontario's best female junior golfers in action. Pre-Registration required - to register, contact Mallory Dayman at mdayman@gao.ca or call 905-852-1101 x237. Clinic will be from 3 pm to 4:30 pm.

Get hooked on free family fishing! No fishing licence is required on Saturday July 10. Two fishing events are taking place that Saturday. Portland Fire Department Bass Fishing Derby will hold their annual event. Great prizes for all ages. Tickets available at Leonards Fuels, Hartington and Papa Petes, Harrowsmith. All proceeds go to the Portland District Fire Fighters Association.

Verona Family Fishing Day will also be held on Saturday, July 10th from 11am to 2pm at Verona [Rock] Lake. Prizes for all kids under 16 who catch a fish. Free BBQ with hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, juice and water. Bring your boat or fish from the dock. For this event, Canadian residents do not require a fishing license. Please pre-register with Cam McCauley at cam.mccauley@ontario.ca or call 613-531-5714 to reserve your spot! This is a free event brought to you by Frontenac Stewartship Council and the Verona Community Association.

Fish during the day, then head to Verona Sand Road for the Lion's Club Jamboree for three evenings of great fun and games. The Jamboree will be here July 8, 9, and 10th. There will be games of chance, great Bingo prizes, famous jamboree burgers and fries along with a fantastic midway. Canteen opens at 6:00 PM, other activities start at 6:30 pm.

Verona's second free "Music in the Park" summer concert will be held Sunday July 11 at McMullen Beach. Catch the country music of Rick Smith and Free Beer! (Sorry, that's a band -- no beer!) 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Bring your lawn chairs and prepare for a great afternoon of entertainment. Refreshments available.
