It's Garlic Festival time! This Saturday, treat the whole family to the celebration of the stinky rose. The Lions Club grounds will be alive with vendors from all over Eastern Ontario and The Frontenac Farmer's Market selling over 17 varieties of fresh garlic along with braids, sauces, spreads and growing tips. Sample great food, featuring delicious beef, scrumptious sausage, breakfast, dogs and fries. Enjoy farm-fresh corn, soups, vegetables, jams, preserves, local honey, maple syrup, garlic nibblers and baking from the Frontenac Farmer's Market. There will be lots of fun things for the kiddies to do- a children's centre with arts and crafts, a miniature train ride and mini-golf. At 1 pm, the Eastern Ontario Garlic Awards will be presented. Come early and enjoy Verona's final festival for 2010. The festival will be open rain or shine, outdoors or indoors at the Verona Lions Centre, 4505 Verona Sand Road, Saturday September 4th, 9am to 2 p.m.

For everyone who enjoyed watching the Main St. flower barrels blossom this summer, come celebrate with all the flower barrel entrants at the Garlic Festival. The winners of the Flower Barrel Contest will be announced at the Festival at 1 p.m.

Something new at Bravo Restaurant. Martha Dunn took over the reins at Bravo on September 1. Martha tells us that the new ownership is the only change for Bravo, the famous Greek menu will stay the same. Martha brings a wealth of experience to Bravo. She has been in the restaurant business for 15 years. Martha loves Verona, For the month of August she was at Bravo, welcoming new customers and getting to know Verona. She has been thrilled with the friendliness and support that Verona residents have shown her. She is looking forward to becoming part of our community. For Martha, it will be a family affair. Her 4 grown children will also be involved in various aspects of the business, from helping in the dish pit to chef training. A big Verona welcome to Martha and her family and a fond farewell to Angelo, Spiros, Georgia and Chris Lianos.

Scouts Canada Registration for 1st Verona will be held on Thursday, September 9th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Trinity United Church Hall. Register your boys or girls in Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, or Venturers. For further information contact South Frontenac Group at 613-372-2050

The Trinity Quilting group will resume on Sept. 15th from 9 am to 12 noon. They are looking forward to welcoming any new members whether you are a beginner, a pro, or somewhere in between. For more information please call Ann McDougall at 613-374-2516. Trinity United Church. Verona.

Don't forget to enter your favourite tomato story into the Best Tomato Story Contest. The winners will get their stories published in the Frontenac News and win gift certificates redeemable at the market. Stories must be original, 500 words or less and submitted by September 10th.
