The trouble with weather forecasting is that it's right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it. ~Patrick Young

January is almost over. This has been one of our typical Canadian winter months - cold, miserable and lots of snow. However the days are getting visibly longer and the ground hog is getting ready to poke his head out. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that he won't see his shadow and spring will soon be here.

Kudos to Linda Bates and her team who are on their way to Haiti. They will be delivering medical supplies and hand made quilts lovingly crafted by Bev Parsons. Linda has promised us a full update on their return.

Bingo! The Verona Lions Bingo cohosted by Knights of Columbus, St Patrick Council will be played Monday, January 31 at 7 pm. The doors and canteen open at 6 pm. Early bird game starts at 6:50 pm. Then 12 regular games and 2 share the wealth will be played. The prizes for each of the 12 games are meat packages consisting of two chicken breasts, 2 pork chops, 2 lean ground beef and one roast beef, value of $25.00. Verona Lions Club, 4504 Verona Sand Rd. Free parking.

Only two more Saturdays left to enjoy conversation over a home cooked breakfast. Treat the family to a "Winter Weekend Wake-up Breakfast" this Saturday, January 29th. A breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, fried potatoes for only $5.00. Served from 9 am to 11 am. Trinity United Church, Verona.

The Quilting Group meets at Trinity United Church in Verona on Wednesday, February 2nd from 9am till noon. For more information call Ann McDougall at 613 374-2516.

"Verona Diners" will be held at the Verona Trinity United Church on February 3rd at noon. This program provides a full-course, catered meal for residents aged 55 plus. For $11 per person, you will enjoy a wonderful mid-day meal, entertainment and transportation (if required). This is a great opportunity to meet new and old friends, enjoy some local talent, and learn what's up in our community. Reservations are required. For more details call 613-376-6477.

Play a few hands of euchre on Thursday February 3rd. Lunch is at noon, euchre at 1 pm. Cash prizes and lunch all included for $2.00. Bellrock Community Centre. March 4. For more information call 613-374-5426

And for more euchre fun, you are invited to go to the Sydenham Legion to play euchre every Monday from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Afterwards, enjoy a chat over a cup of tea and cookies.
