This year, the musical entertainment for the Verona Cattail Festival will be spectacular. 14 musical groups will play over a period of three days. Here are just a few of the highlights. Ila Vann, singing the Blues, will head up the Friday night entertainment. Ila toured with the USO and had a hit record, which hit # 1 in the UK. She is a solo performer who also provided distinct harmonies with Frank Sinatra, Kenny Rogers, Louis Armstrong to name a few. The Saturday headliner is the Rattles. They actually played with the Beatles and will do a Beatles tribute. On Sunday, the headliners will be Luthor Wright and the Wrongs, and Kelli Trottier. Luthor is a singing, songwriting, country punk, folk, troubadour based out of Kingston. Kelli blends traditional Celtic, contemporary Country, Folk, Bluegrass and western swing with her inspired fiddle and vocal arrangements. For a complete list of all the entertainment (which includes some great local talent), log onto the website www.veronafestival.com A new added feature on the festival website are videos of many of the acts.

In an earlier column, I named 6 volunteers who received the 2011 Volunteer Service Awards. Silly me, that was only the tip of the iceberg. Here are the others who received 15-year awards and up. 15-year awards - Jean Clair, Beth Freeland, Dick Miller
20-year awards - Terry Freeland, 30-year award - Jim Lansdell, 40-year awards - Ann Feeley, Margaret Reynolds, Elfleda Watson. Kudos to all the volunteers who make Verona such a great place to live.
