New Day, New Time! The Parade for the Cattail Festival has moved to a new day. Saturday August 6 at 10 am. Use your imagination and join the fun. Enter a float decorated with dinosaurs or dragons or ducks and have a chance to win one of 7 prizes. The town crier, Paddy O'Connor, will lead the parade followed by pipers and floats, Costumed children and adults will be walking or riding decorated bikes, The Saturday morning parade will start off a fabulous family day at the festival. Here is just a quick glimpse at what is happening. Cameron Saves the Day in a funny, witty play, "Buzztown". Children can watch a Hoops and Acrobatics Act and then participate in a workshop. There will be an exciting Bats talk and display (and even a live Bat to get up close to). Cameron Kids Corner will provide free crafts for the kids all day, including "Make Your Own" Cameron Critters Fridge Magnets and Dinosaur or Butterfly Bogs.

Let's not forget Friday night at the Festival. Friday evening will start with two exciting new events. A Spaghetti Dinner hosted by the Verona Gospel Assembly Church. This dinner will be held in the Verona Lions Club starting at 5 pm. Dinner by donation. Then take the kiddies to The Touch a Truck Event. They will be able to get up close and touch an Ambulance, Firetruck, Dump Truck and lots more! The kids will love it! This is courtesy of The Child Centre (Northern Frontenac Community Services).

On Sunday, the Festival will host the 16th Annual Classic Car Show. This is just a brief glimpse into three exciting days. There is so much to see and do at this year's Verona Cattail Festival. 14 exciting musical acts spread over three days, plus entertainment, events and activities for the whole family. The complete program is now available on the festival website ( www.veronafestival.com) Next week, it will be printed in a special pullout section in this paper.

This summer, Verona and area youth, aged 7 to 17, will have an amazing opportunity to participate in an animation workshop, provided by Out in The Sticks Cultural Centre in Yarker. In this workshop they will learn all the basics of animation and how to make their own stop-motion movie. The workshop will run from August 16 to September 4. Participation is by donation. (minimum donation is $ 35.00. ) This project is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. For more details contact Anna at 613-877-4532.

St. Paul's United Church in Harrowsmith will be holding a "Cold Plate Supper" on Sat. July 23. 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Adults $12, children $6. Take out is available.

The Frontenac Old Time Music Championship will be held July 23 and 24 at the Bedford Hall, 1381 Westport Road. There will be prize money & ribbons for the Singing Contest, Fiddle Contest, Guitar Contest, Banjo Contest and Mandolin Contest. www.frontenacoldtimemusic.com or call Joan Shepherd at 613-374-5477.
