Bellrock is the place to be this Saturday, September 17, as the village celebrates its 150th Anniversary. Festivities start at 12:30 pm with opening ceremonies at the Bellrock Hall. There will be lots to see and do - horse drawn history tours, craft demonstrations, artisans, children's games and historical displays. A BBQ pulled pork dinner will be held at 5 p.m. followed by readings from various authors who have lived and written about the village and area. Volunteers are needed to help, both the day of and leading up to this event. Call Lynne Hutchinson at 613-374-1470

The fall season is almost upon us and the sweet smells of freshly baked apple pies will soon be filling the air. Trinity United Church is holding their Annual Pie Sale! Pre-order your fresh apple pies for pick-up on Friday September 30, or Saturday October 1. Take them straight from the kitchen at Trinity United Church to your oven or freezer. To order, phone Marilyn at 374-2694, by September 26. Pies went fast last year, so be quick to order. At $9 for a 9-inch pie, you can stack your freezer, and take a pie to a neighbour, just in time for Thanksgiving!

The Christmas for Kids Committee is gearing up for another great year. Christmas for Kids is a program that demonstrates the community's love and concern by collecting money to buy special presents for specific kids (from baby through high school) in families who are struggling to keep afloat. Every year, the Christmas for Kids Coordinator purchases presents with the special needs of each child in mind. The presents - stylish warm clothing, books, puzzles, games, stuffed toys - are lovingly wrapped and grouped by family for surprise delivery. To help raise funds, Christmas for Kids is holding a bottle drive on Saturday, September 24. They will be located at the Verona Foodland from 11 am to 4 pm. You can drop off your empties with them (wine, beer, or cooler empties) and be assured that the funds are going to a very worthwhile cause.

Grandmothers by the Lake will host an African Dinner at Trinity United Church on Saturday, September 24. Proceeds will benefit the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the Grassroots Projects that assist grandmothers raising children orphaned due to AIDS. African grandmothers are central to the life of their communities. With almost no support, they have stepped forward to care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS, sometimes as many as ten to fifteen in one household. The funds raised through organizations such as Grandmothers by the Lake provide African grandmothers and the children in their care with supports that include food, educational supplies, uniforms and school fees, medical care, HIV counselling and testing, adequate housing and bedding, counselling and support groups, home visits, and much more. Tickets are $25 per person, and are available at Tiffany Gift Shoppe, Harrowsmith or from Marni Pedersen 374-9929.

A Gospel Concert with Old Hims and the Proverbs will be held on Friday, September 23 at Hartington Community Church, 7 pm.
