What a busy day last Saturday was. It was an early start for bargain hunters. Hubby and I joined the crowd outside Trinity United Church for the 8 am opening for a Whale of Sale. A steady stream of people filed in all day. The final verdict? It was a 'whale of a success'. Then we were off to the Frontenac Farmers Market for the official opening of the "Donna Clark Pavilion". Had our cake and browsed the wares of the new vendors at the market as well as all the tried and true. Then back to Main St to enjoy a 4H hamburger at Local Family Farms. They hosted The Frontenac Cattlemen's Event, complete with wagon rides and live cattle displays. At the end of the day we walked Main St and marveled at the beautiful flower barrels that now adorn our little village. So much to do in Verona and summer is just beginning!

Free summer concerts! After last year's success, the concerts have been brought back by popular demand. The Verona Community Association is sponsoring a set of three free "Music in the Park" concerts this summer at McMullen Beach in Verona. The first one, on Sunday June 13th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm will feature "Crooked Wood" (Celtic and Folk Music). Bring your lawn chairs and prepare for a great afternoon of entertainment. Refreshments will be available.

Dance to the sound of Still Standing. This Dance and silent auction in support of the Frontenac Community Arena will be held Saturday June 5th at the arena from 9 pm to 1 am. Buffet at 11 pm. An evening of music, food, dancing and games for only $10.00 advance sales or $15.00 at the door. Advance tickets available at the Verona Hardware Store.

Portland District & Area Heritage Society will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Wed. Jun 16, at 7 PM, Old Bellrock School, Bellrock. Guest speaker is Kim Ondaatje. All are welcome.

Our condolences to Deborah, Doug and Sabra Lovegrove and family. Deborah's mother, Shirley Miller, passed away on May 26th.

The Verona baseball field on Verona Sand Road will be the location for the following baseball games. Monday June 7, Pitch Division, East Storington 2 at Verona 6:30 pm. Tuesday June 8, Peewee division, Perth Road at Verona 6:30 pm. Thursday, June 10, Squirt division, Sydenham at Verona 6:30 pm.
