Volunteers are not paid -- not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. - Unknown
This has been a terrific year for Verona! For a small village, we have so much going on. There is never a week that goes by where I don't have special events and occasions to report. Each year that passes adds new events to the roster. This year the Verona Community Association introduced the "Adopt a Flower Barrel Contest" and we all saw what a success that was. Our Main St never looked better. The VCA, Lions Club, our churches and many other organizations run events and special occasions the year round. Music concerts, jamborees, festivals ... a never-ending cornucopia of fun! And it is time to thank the people who make Verona this exciting place to live in. The volunteers! Without the volunteers we would not be able to hold these successful events. The volunteers make it happen. So volunteers, pat yourselves on your backs. You have a lot to be proud of. And if you have never volunteered, make a New Year's resolution, join in the fun and volunteer next year.
Have you picked up your free tickets for the Christmas Dinner on Christmas day at the Verona Lion's Club? Don't fret! The deadline has been extended right up to Christmas Day. However the hall only holds a certain number of people, so try and get your tickets now from Toppers or Verona Hardware. It is going to be a fantastic day filled with music, fun and great food. I hope to see you there! For further info contact Joyce Casement at 613-374-3406.
Verona Free Methodist Church is holding their Christmas event called 'A Walk to the First Christmas.' Journey back in time to the night Jesus was born. Enjoy eating with the wise men at a first century meal in Herod's throne room. This free event is a walking tour through the church with actors and scenes that take approximately 60 minutes (including the free meal). The tours are from 5:30 to 6:30 pm and also from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Tours leave every 10 minutes. Saturday December 18th and Sunday December 19th.
This is it. The last chance to visit the Frontenac Farmers Market. Then you will just have to wait until February when the market starts up again. Stock up now. December 18th is Customer Appreciation Day. Join the market for turkey and treats. Enter the contest to win a basket of market goodies. Enjoy the music as students from Tom's Music Studio will present a Christmas Recital. Lions Club, Verona Sand Road, 9 am to 12 noon.
And finally, as we head into the New Year of 2011, I extend to all the readers of the Frontenac News this wonderful Christmas sentiment.
What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace. - Agnes M. Pharo
